Advocacy & Issues

The Board of Directors is fighting to make sure that health and retirement benefits earned by our members and promised to us by the city are not cut.  View the August 6, 2007 Association letter sent to City leaders emphasizing our position.

  • We were promised our health care and retirement benefits,

  • We worked for and paid our fair share for these benefits, and

  • We expect the city to keep its promise and not cut our benefits.

The association, along with many other current and retired city employees, were able to convince the City Council to evaluate and study the issue of retiree health care costs and to work with us on potential ideas that protect our members.  View the August 27, 2007 Association letter detailing our position on becoming a part of a City of San Jose working group to discuss retiree benefits.

Your Association will be asking you to help us preserve and protect our retirement benefits.  We may ask you to come speak at a City Council meeting, Retirement Board meeting or write a letter to the City Manager or Mayor.  We must be ready on the drop of a dime to get involved and our Advocacy & Issues section of this web site is intended to keep you informed and give you necessary information to make your voice heard.
